Wedding Disaster: A Bridal Shower Left-Right Story
Looking left and right for a great bridal shower activity? Your search ends RIGHT here.
If you’ve never played the Left-Right Game, you’re in for a treat. Not only is it a simple and fun game that everyone can play, but it’s a clever way to distribute small gifts to your guests. While it’s often thought of as a Christmas thing, it works for any type of party… including a bridal shower.

Besides the gifts, the important part of a Left-Right Game is the story. You want something short, amusing, and above all, on-theme for your party. I’ve got the perfect left-right story for a bridal shower, complete with a printable you can use. But first let’s go over how the game works.
The Rules
The rules of the Left-Right Game are beyond simple. Before the game begins, players sit in a circle holding a gift, goodie, or other prize. The prizes are typically wrapped or in a gift bag, but they don’t have to be.
As the game starts, someone reads a special story where the words “left” and “right” appear many times. Each time one of those words is mentioned, players pass their prizes in the corresponding direction. When the story ends, players get to keep the prizes they’re holding.
The Christmas version of this game is your usual gift exchange, where players bring a wrapped present of a certain value. For a bridal shower Left-Right Game, the organizer (that’s you) would typically supply all the prizes. The gifts can be anything, but it’s important that they be different in some way (otherwise it doesn’t really matter who ends up with what).
There’s one last minor detail to keep in mind. Depending on the number of players, a left-right story could result in the prizes landing back where they started. You can avoid this by improvising an extra line: “Now there’s nothing LEFT except to enjoy your gifts!” For this story, I’ve added an extra, optional line you can also use if desired.

The Story

Wedding Disaster
Brides always want everything on their wedding day to go just RIGHT. They want the weather to be just RIGHT, the flowers to look just RIGHT, and most of all, for everything to happen RIGHT on time. But with weddings, it’s rare for everything to go RIGHT. In fact, as the following story shows, sometimes everything goes wrong.
Once there was a girl named Mary, and she was engaged to a man we will refer to as Mr. RIGHT. As her wedding day approached, Mary was LEFT feeling nervous. “There’s so much LEFT to do,” she fretted, as she LEFT yet another wedding appointment with her fiancé in tow.
In contrast to Mary, Mr. RIGHT seemed totally unfazed. “I’m sure everything will turn out all RIGHT,” he said. But Mary wasn’t reassured. She worried that there were problems just around the corner… and as it turns out, she was RIGHT.
First the photographer cancelled at the last minute because he had broken his LEFT leg in a skiing accident. Mary called around and LEFT messages with every other photographer in town, but almost all of them were booked. The only photographer LEFT charged double what she was paying.
But that was nothing compared to what happened at the wedding rehearsal dinner. Three members of the wedding party came down with food poisoning, which LEFT them too sick to be in the wedding. Fortunately the bride and groom were LEFT unscathed.
But then a true disaster happened. RIGHT before the big day, Mary got a zit RIGHT on the tip of her nose. There was nothing that could make it look RIGHT, and the more she tried, the more red and irritated it became.
As she LEFT for the church on her wedding day, Mary wondered what was LEFT to go wrong. As it turned out, the answer was… plenty.
First the best man LEFT the wedding ring behind and had to go fetch it while the bride and groom were waiting at the altar. Next the preacher called Mary the wrong name during the ceremony, which LEFT her feeling embarrassed. Worse than that, Mary tripped during the bride and groom’s first dance at the wedding reception thanks to her two LEFT feet.
When it was all over and the newlyweds had LEFT the reception, Mary leaned back in her seat in the back of the rented limo and let out a big sigh. Mr. RIGHT turned to her. “Sorry not everything went RIGHT today,” he said. “In fact, now that I think about it, just about nothing went RIGHT.”
“That’s all RIGHT,” Mary said. “I actually had a lot of fun today and RIGHT now, I’m feeling so relieved. My biggest fear didn’t come true.”
“What was that?” Mr. RIGHT asked.
“I was worried the wedding wouldn’t be memorable,” she said.
The newlyweds shared a laugh as the limo turned LEFT and stopped on a side street. Unfortunately, the limo had a mechanical problem, which LEFT Mary and her new husband needing a ride to the hotel.
(Optional) It wouldn’t be the last time things didn’t go RIGHT for the couple, but they lived happily ever after anyways.
