Word Lists for Baby Shower Charades and Pictionary

Cute and funny phrases for your baby shower guessing games.

There are so many different party games to consider for a baby shower, but in the end, you simply can’t go wrong with the classics. Guessing games like Charades and Pictionary are endlessly entertaining because they get people interacting – and laughing. And perhaps best of all, they play out differently depending on the word lists you use.

Did I mention word lists? I’ve created a couple of them for you, complete with accompanying printables. One list is tailored to Charades (acting out) while the other is more geared towards Pictionary (drawing). Having said that, these prompts are more or less interchangeable – so feel free to mix and match!

Baby Shower Charades

To start, here’s the Charades list with words and phrases all having to do with babies, birth, and motherhood. There are plenty of verbs and adjectives here because we’re aiming for phrases that are difficult and/or amusing to pantomime.

Ideas for Baby Shower Charades and Pictionary

In addition to using the word lists above, here are a few other thoughts about how to make your baby shower guessing game a success.

Create balanced teams. It’s not super important to have the exact same number of people on each team. However, it’s always nice when there’s some competitive balance. Not everyone is familiar with terms associated with babies and parenthood – try to pair these people up with those who are more experienced.

Plan for time. Charades and Pictionary take longer than many other baby shower games and activities. You can always cut things short if needed (provided each team has gotten an equal number of turns). However, you probably need at least 45 minutes to run a game that doesn’t feel rushed.

Prune your word list if necessary. It’s a good idea to check over the word list to make sure it doesn’t raise any sensitive issues. For example, if the baby’s father isn’t in the picture, using the word daddy might not be appropriate. Similarly, some groups may not appreciate prompts related to anatomy and bodily functions (although personally, I think they’re the funniest).
